“Are you sure this is alright?” Claire asked, her voice high and thin. She watched the workers maneuver the large panels into place, a knot forming in her stomach.

Her neighbor, Mr. Peterson, simply shrugged. He clearly didn’t understand the issue. Claire knew, somehow, that this was going to ruin everything. The perfectly manicured garden she had spent years creating was going to be changed forever.

She began picking at the skin around her nails, the rough texture offering a brief moment of comfort. She knew she had to say something, but the words were trapped in her throat.
